Arte de El vengador Toxico Español/English

Este es un "paso a paso" de la creación de una ilustración de The Toxic Avenger destinada a ser estampada en playeras.

Comienzo con un pequeño sketch trazando la idea general, que cosas se me ocurren para poner en el escenario, me inspíro de otros diseños, y robo ideas “como un artista”.

I start with a small sketch outlining the general idea, what things I can think of to put on stage, I get inspired by other designs, and I steal ideas “like an artist”.

Después en otra hoja grande trato de meter más detalles y definir la figura principal, uso referencias para la pose y los músculos, tomo referencias de fotos para la ropa y los objetos, y defino precisamente que cosas adornan el set.


Then on another big sheet I try to put more details and define the main figure, I use references for the pose and muscles, I take references of photos for clothes and objects, and I define precisely what things adorn the set.

Uso Manga Studio el mejor programa para entintar que he usado, hago algunos ajustes de proporciones y tamaños, por ejemplo reduje el espacio que abarca la mancha de desperdicio toxico en la parte inferior; pulo más los detalles y uso las herramientas geométricas para hacer los detalles de los barriles y edificios.


Here I use Manga Studio the best inking program that I have used, I make some adjustments of proportions and sizes, for example I reduce the space that covers the toxic waste spot in the lower part; clean the sketch for more details and I use the geometric tools to make the details of the barrels and buildings.




Después paso a hacer la selección de colores base, una gran herramienta que ayuda a crear paletas armónicas es Prisma palette, elijo los colores pero teniendo cuidado de que haya en lo posible un equilibro de valores, equilibro los negrosy blancos para dirigir la mirada hacia lo que sea que quiero que resalte.


Then I go to make the selection of base colors, a great tool that helps to create harmonic palettes is Prism palette, I choose the colors but taking care that there is as much as possible a balance of values, I balance the blacks and whites to direct the look towards the that I want it to stand out.

Aquí esta el mapa de valores, trato de tener cuidado de la localización de los valores más claros y los más oscuros, no quiero tener más claro algo que no sea relevante, como los pies o piernas, en este caso el valor mas claro es la piel de toxie, y que lo más oscuro sea el fondo que haga contraste con el personaje brillante.



Here is the map of values, I try to be careful of the location of the clearest and darkest values, I do not want to be more clear about something that is not relevant, like the feet or legs, in this case the clearest value is the toxie skin, and the darker the background that contrasts with the bright character.

En esta parte empiezo a definir donde van las sombras, no puse ninguna sombra amplia o dramática, solo puse una sombra que ayude a definir los objetos.


In this part I begin to define where the shadows go, I did not put any wide or dramatic shadow, I just put a shadow that helps to define the objects.

Puse una luz de reflejo, me tome la libertad de hacerla sin alguna lógica más que estética, para definir la silueta y arbitrariamente use el color azul que es frio contrasta con el del fondo que es un color cálido.


I put a light of reflection, I take the liberty to do it without some logic more than aesthetic, to define the silhouette and arbitrarily use the blue color that is cold contrasts with the background color that is a warm color.

En este paso el detalle es muy sutil, así que tratare de explicar lo que pasa aquí, selecciono el color base y lo saturo un poco, y empiezo a pasar el color por las zonas donde quiero que resalte el objeto que estoy trabajando, para que se ve más vibrante, dejo que el color base en las zonas que estén cerca del Line art, a si dan un efecto de volumen, después a ese mismo color saturado le pongo más blanco para hacer pequeños toques de brillos, que den más luz y acentúen el volumen.

In this step the detail is very subtle, so I will try to explain what happens here, I select the base color and saturate it a bit, and I start to pass the color through the areas where I want the object I’m working to highlight, so that it looks more vibrant, I leave the base color in the areas that are close to the Line art, give a volume effect, then to that same
saturated color I put more white to make small touches of brightness, which give more light and accentuate the volume.

Aquí hago una selección objeto por objeto y le añado un degradado, puede ser radial o lineal, puede ser con un color más saturado o con un color complementario, juego un poco con los modos de capa para dejar que pasen “accidentes felices” el objetivo es poner más información y variación de colores para que se complementen y la paleta se vea mejor sin saturar todo, en este caso quiero saturar solo algunas zonas, busco un efecto de luz artificial o “neon” en los colores.

Here I make a selection object by object and I add a gradient, it can be radial or linear, it can be with a more saturated color or with a complementary color, I play a bit with the layer modes to let them pass “happy accidents” the objective is to put more information and variation of colors so that they complement each other and the palette looks better without saturating everything, in this case I want to saturate only some areas, I look for an artificial light effect or “neon” in the colors.

Al último pongo dos capas: una de ajuste, “tono/saturación” y otra de “equilibro de color”, juego con todos los colores que pueda, veo como afectan los cambios que hago y selecciono el que me gusta más según mis objetivos. ¡Finalizado!

To the last I put two layers: one of adjustment, “tone / saturation” and another of “color balance”, I play with all the colors that I can, I see how the changes I do affect and I select the one that I like the most according to my goals. Finalized!

Ya está, quizás tiene más lugar a mejoras, algunos errores, ni siqueira quiero comentar algo del tema de composición; quizás no la ilsutracion no la tiene y de tenerla es por intuición más que por intención, pero eso se hará en el próximo dibujo, cada dibujo es un paso a hacer una mejor y mejor obra, te sigues moviendo para adelante mientras mejoras con cada vez, por ahora este ya esta.

That’s it, maybe it has more room for improvements, some mistakes, I do not want to comment on the subject of composition; perhaps the illustration does not have it and if it is, it is by intuition rather than intention, but that will be done in the next drawing, each drawing is a step to do a better and better work, you keep moving forward while improving with each Once, for now it is ready.
